Is anyone else experiencing issues with their iPhone X and SKYQ Fibre Broadband on Wi-Fi ?

The issue I have is that on Wi-Fi sometimes webpages / Facebook / imessages stop refreshing almost like the internet has disappeared. The blue bar on safari at the top goes about 15% the way across the screen and stops. This happens when the iPhone is using the SKYQ mini boxes as hotspots.

All other iPhones / iPads work fine but the iPhone X doesn't seem to hand over well from main router to SKYQ mini hotspots.

SKY say no issue and Apple say no hardware issue - ANY help gratefully received.

I have SkyQ and Fibre Unlimited Max and my X is fine, as is my son's. The Sky Q hub is downstairs and we have a mini-box in our bedroom. I haven't noticed any difficulty using my phone walking from room to room and floor to floor. If anything, I find the WiFi a bit faster than it was on my 7+.

Guessing you have tried a power cycle seeing you’ve contacted both sky and Apple.

Yes tried Power Cycle and reset network settings and full reset SKY router.

It seems to be the hand-over from one hot spot to another.

So for example if I connect to living room WiFi using I assume router as strongest signal its fine until I move to Kitchen where it then connects to a SKY mini box hot spot. Same is the other way round. Connect to SKY mini box hot spot all is well until I move to living room and it then moves to router.

6S+ is 100% fine in this situation but not iPhone X (running latest iOS).

Ha i have the same! been driving me mad. I returned my phone and new one has the same issue

the phone gets a 169 IP address. I think it happens when you move from the router access point to the Sky Q Mini box access point... it cant get the ip fast enough and instead assigns itself a 169.

Have you tweaked any settings in the SKY Q mesh network? or is yours default. I tweaked a lot to get it quicker when i first got it, so assumed i had messed something up.

try the 2.4ghz channel as i have done this and it works so far. Not as quick as the 5ghz but doesn't get a 169 ip address.

You might need to split your channels on the router if you haven't done this to get it to work.

Excellent thanks for posting you have the same issue as well!

I've tried turning off Powerline and turning off 2.4ghz on the mini box both didn't work as the iPhone X was using 5ghz.

Can you explain how you got it working exactly ? Is it just a case of turning 5ghz off on router, SKYQ box and all minis ?

If you turn 5ghz off, the minis wont work as far as i know as it breaks the mesh.

I only got my replacement phone yesterday after waiting 2 weeks. It failed four time last night on wifi , so unless i have got 2 duds, it has to be the router with sky.

I have my SSID split on the router, so it broadcasts a 2.4 and a 5ghz channel separately. I just connect my phone to the 2.4ghz channel and so far, so good. Not sure if i can post links here but you can google how to split the channels on sky q router.

The speed goes from 38mb to 25mb using 2.4 but i dont get drop outs anymore (so far!) i have even tried to reserve an IP address for the phone and this doesn't work either. its very annoying.

So, before this issue occured, have you tweaked any of the default SKY Q settings either via the router or sky q tv boxes? im at a loss as to how some work fine, and others dont.

Many thanks for posting - I'm so happy someone else has the same issues and its not just me! :)

I've not made any changes to the 'SKY mesh' but what SKY asked me to try was a direct 15m Ethernet between mini and router so its not using Wi-Fi and see it that worked for the iPhone.

I think I'm going to try the SSID split first though as you suggest.

let me know please if that works for you? the 2.4 ghz and also the cable as mine is too far away for a cable. But i would def be interested in knowing :)

Ok split the SKY WiFi into two SSIds, one for 2.4ghz and the original SSID 5ghz.

Connected iPhone X to 2.4ghz only and fantastic works perfectly!

Going from room to room the iPhone now loads pages perfectly so thank you for a solution.

I’ve got a Apple care call booked tomorrow so will see if they have any inside into why 5ghz isn’t working with SKYQ.

Thanks for letting me know :) I’d love to know why it doesn’t work with 5ghz . Hopefully they can tell you

Did you have any luck with apple?

Ok after a conversion with Apple Care they are escalating the issue to their engineers as it is probably an issue with the iPhone X and SKYQ working together.

Hardware has been confirmed as working and all software steps taken so it looks like a compatanlity issue with iPhone X.

I’ll post when I get an update from Apple.

Thanks I’ve literally tried all I can think of on the router etc. I know it works for some people on sky q so wonder if it’s an incompatibility between different chips used in the phone perhaps! Will be interesting to see how many other people have some issue

Ironic as sky are heavily advertising the x ha

I have seen another post as well about this now when connected to 5ghz networks. shocked not many other people are experiencing it.

No update from Apple as yet. Had an email from Apple Care saying engineers are still investigating.

I'll post when I receive a solution.

Apple Care got back in touch yesterday and requested all details of the SKYQ Hub and network setup.

They also asked I restore the iPhone X to back to a clean phone with 11.2 installed from iTunes.

I was then asked to replicate the problem, which I did, then they downloaded the logs from the phone to iTunes and zipped them up to Apple.

They also requested copies of screen shot when I get the 'page not loading' message in Safari.

So far I have spent about 7 hours on this issue - they don't seem to be keen to offer any compensation or goodwill for my time trying to solve this SKY Q / iPhone X compatibility issue...

Thanks for the update. I work in IT, have spoken to a few of my networking colleagues and are at a bit of a loss. I hope they sort it out :) When i spoke to sky they basically blame Apple.

[doublepost=1512775016][/doublepost]Yes I also have this problem. The WiFi symbol is on but when I go into another room I cannot connect to the internet. I have to switch airplane mode on and off so the phone connects back to my main hub from the mini box. Very frustrating.

All older iPhones do not have this problem.

Any resolution?

My X is terrible on sky Q, it says it’s connected to Wi-fi but it just refuses to work!

We’ve got a mini box upstairs and the router downstairs. Going to do some playing today to see if I can figure it out!

I found this thread by accident, I’ve been disabling Wi-fi on my X every now and then when I had connection issues and relying on 4G.

I’ve got Sky Q router and mini box too :(

Only use 2.4ghz network if you use the 5ghz it drops and assigns itself a 169 ip address when changing the access point

Ive had same issues as well, it’s not the iphone it’s a sky issue. Only way I found to fix it was to use a Wi-fi extender then link my phone to that rather than directly to sky mesh.
