Would the iPhone X be a good video camera for good quality 4k youtube videos, rather than buying a 4K camera around the same price? ($1150 for 256 gb?)

Would I be better off with an iPhone 8 Plus? Seems like it will be a little cheaper, is the camera and everything the same?

Would I need a separate mic for better audio?

I will mostly be be making product demo videos for a tabletop board game that I produce, nothing too hardcore, and I do need to get a new phone as my old phone is, well, old. So I thought I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I wouldn't be able to buy a 4K camera that costs much more than the X anyway, but I want to be able to put together good quality videos.

Well a separate mic of course.

The tele of the 8+ is not stabilized, so 1 of the 2 cameras is not “the same”.

Also consider a gimbal? (dji, zhiyun, ecc.)

I’m no expert but I’d say why not.
Just plan in advance all the brackets, mounts, adapters etc. to neatly mount the mic on the gimbal or handle/stick.

They should make a gimbal with wireless Qi charging now that I think about it.

Thanks

I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to afford a good enough camera with the same features on the X. Primarily 4K at 60 fps. Seems like a lot of the ones I looked up under $1000 only do 30 fps. I could probably find one if I search more but I just felt like the iPhone has everything I need all in 1. Some day if I get really serious about videos I would of course upgrade to a real camera, but I’m just getting started and I just need “good enough”. I just want great picture quality and I wanted the 4K / 60 FPS to be more future proof. I have a HD camcorder that I’ve been using, but it was a budget camera and I was never too happy with the quality.

iPhone videos are more than enough for most YouTube videos because people generally watch them on phones, tablets and regular 1080p TVs. 4K is overkill at this point. So go for it. This might help.
