The battery in my iPhone X needs to be replaced. Seems to be swelling which is pushing the screen on. I only use this phone to steam music while working (music cuts off when I use my phone camera for work). Is there much of a difference between getting it replaced at an Apple Store vs having it done at a kiosk at the mall? I'm thinking Apple battery vs an aftermarket that might not have the same quality. Thoughts?

As far as store vs. kiosk, ya rolls the dice and ya takes yer chances. Store cost (in USA) is $89 plus tax; unless you're saving literally half that or more I wouldn't bother with kiosk.

If you turn off Live Photos, the camera won't cut off streaming audio though... consider that option?

I have an app that I use for work to take pictures. I worked perfect when I first started using it. Then one day music would cut off when I opened the camera portion of the app. I don't do video. Just photos. I spoke with tech support for the app. Listening to music while using it really isn't a priority so they didn't care much.

Those third-party batteries don't tend to last long. If the cost is 1/3 or less, I'd consider it only because iPhone X is worth so little today.

But if you expect the phone to last more than a year with good battery life and retain water resistance, go with the real thing.

As long as Apple has the ware, I’d go for Apple. Difficult to verify authenticity of mall kiosk.
I usually steer clear of non-Apple certified repair shops, especially those in malls with only one or two techs who fix devices one at a time.

They might use non-genuine Apple parts, which can cause serialisation errors.

They might miss a step, rush the job, or even make a major mistake that could damage the part or, worse, make your iPhone not work instead of fixing it.

They might misdiagnose your iPhone and repair it incorrectly.

They could also void the AppleCare warranty and the limited warranty if your iPhone is still under it. An iPhone under AppleCare agreements means you won’t have it cut open by a non-certified or non-trained Apple technician.

Whenever possible, try getting professional help from an Apple Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple technician at an AASP. They’ll do the right thing to check out your iPhone from the inside and make sure it’s safely repaired.

If you’re too far from one, you can try Apple self-service repair. If you’re interested in following along with the instructions and can order your own genuine Apple parts, this method might be a good fit. My ex-Apple employee friend prefers this method if you can’t reach an Apple Store, and he’s even repaired his 13 Pro by ordering the screen from there.

Thanks for the replies! I made an appointment at the Apple Store and went to have this taken care of a few days ago. The screen is also cracked on the bottom. That doesn't matter to me because the phone works fine and I just use it for streaming music. The guy I was talking to wasn't sure if they would replace the battery because of the screen. He told me they press it into place at the end and he thinks it would crack more. I suggested just placing the screen down without doing that. The case I use would keep it in place. I'd be fine with that. He checked with the guy who would work on it. He said he could do that.

Before he went into the back to ask about that, he was trying to come up with another option. He noticed my Apple Watch and asked if I considered pairing my EarPods to that to listen. I never even thought about it. Wasn't even on the radar. I tried it while he was gone. Works great. I told me I was going to go that route instead. Saved me $89. And it would have been an additional $279 if I wanted the screen replaced too. Not worth it for an iPhone X.

yeah screen damage is pretty much a no-go for battery replacement. The stress of opening the phone & replacing the battery will almost CERTAINLY cause additional damage.
