The fourth case review in my iPhone X Review Roundup series focuses on Caseology, X-Doria, and MagBak. If you've missed my previous posts, I'm taking a close look at iPhone X cases from a range of manufacturers. We don't often feature case reviews on MacRumors, but with the launch of the iPhone X and its entirely revamped design, we felt it was worth exploring some of the available case options. My previous reviews are below:

[*]iPhone X Case Review Roundup 1
[*]iPhone X Case Review Roundup 2
[*]iPhone X Case Review Roundup 3

For all of these reviews, I'm looking at the general usability of iPhone X cases. Extreme drop tests and in-depth testing aren't covered because those factors are less important than how a case works on an average day, and it's often fairly easy to tell from design how protective a case is going to be.

Factors like bulk, button accessibility, general protection, grip, thickness, and appearance are what I focused on. All of the cases that are in this review roundup work with wireless charging.

MagBak

MagBak cases are made from a soft, flexible rubber material that's easy to grip, so these cases are easy to take off the iPhone when desired. The case wraps around all of the edges on the iPhone X, and it does make the volume and power buttons somewhat harder to press. I don't like the amount of force needed to press the power button because it's going to make it irritating to activate Siri and confirm purchases.

The case has a lip that comes up over the display of the iPhone to protect it when face down, and for those of you who don't like a lip that makes it harder to swipe up from the bottom of the device, this is not the case for you. The lip definitely makes swiping up that way more difficult, but since you don't need to swipe up from the very bottom (I swipe up at about where the dock is, personally), it's not something that's going to bother all users.

I like the simple, no frills design of the MagBak, and the material the case is made from feels like it's going to be fairly protective should the iPhone X be dropped. This offers middle of the road protection, in my estimation. It's not as thin as some of the other cases I've looked at, but it's also not overly bulky and rugged.

Wow, I remember back to the 2G, 3G and 3GS and even iPhone 4 days when there were only like 2 or 3 case options until at least a month after a launch.

Now you can buy 50 different cases before the phone even launches.

*EDIT* haha I just remembered Bumpers. What were they thinking? What was anyone who bought one thinking?

[doublepost=1510269435][/doublepost]Seems like no sites mention Spigen cases when doing these articles... I bought an Ultra Hybrid from Amazon for $12 and it's the ideal case for the X imo. Solid grip on the sides, clear back to show off the beautiful phone, lip on the front to protect screen, and adds very little thickness. I had the same one on my iPhone 6 for almost 3 years and it protected against several drops.

And what’s wrong with bumper cases? I’ve been using bumper cases for the past 8 years on multiple devices and I love them

I'm covering Spigen, I just don't have the cases yet. Should arrive next week.

Ehhh I need a really good clear case. I like the look of the phone too much to cover it up Lol.
before my iPhone 7 Plus I always had the same preference like you, but the problem is these clear cases all become discolored after few weeks of use and look so ugly and nasty.I spent lots of money of clear cases from Spigen,Ringke, etc and all change color really fast.
I hate that.also they feel so cheap plastic and bad in your hand when you hold the iPhone.
with iPhone 7 Plus eventually I bought the official Apple leather case and instantly fell in love with it.not only it's official Apple case with Apple logo at the back, but also it felt really nice, soft and premium in hand.
it was worth the money.
So with iPhone X,I instantly ordered one from Apple.
It's the best case for such expensive phone and conceals the camera bump really nicely too.

Yeah I hear you. I love the fact that it’s an official Apple case with the logo on it.

Honestly Tech21 makes a great “frosted” case called the Impact Clear. It doesn’t change color and feels good in the hand. Might get that if they make it for the X.

Might get another Apple leather case. We’ll see.

I'm curious to know how various cases impact the speed / efficiency of inductive charging. The visuals of the different cases are such a personal style issue [that it is difficult to judge one against another], but as more people start to transition to inductive charging, I have a strong suspicion that some cases are going to negatively impact charging performance. Just the thickness alone of any case is going to create some inefficiency in charging.

Setting performance metrics that can be a marketable thing for a case's effect on inductive charging would be a smart move by the industry.

I ordered the PITAKA case and although haven't received it yet. It's promising. The thinnest on the market, made of the highest durability material, great aesthetic, and magnetic without any added magnets. You can also get a whole world of cool accessories to go with it, like a magnetic charging cradle that fits in the AC vent of your car, and a bar that you can install at home, that has a screen to show whatever notifications are going on with your phone. Def pricey - but can be worth it on a $1200 phone ($49.99 for case, $25 for the car mount/charger)

Monday I received the Incipio Slim Case Esquire Series in Gray Fabric recommended by one of the forum members. So happy to have the buttons exposed again on my iPhone X.
