Has anyone noticed the Dock is different on the iOS build for iPhone X. Visually it is the same Dock design as the iPad version of iOS 11.

Is it possible the iPhone X has more features in the Dock for iPhone X than Touch ID iPhones which did not get this graphical redesign? It's a really weird graphical inconsistency that I don't think Apple has ever done on an iPhone iOS release before. It's not like something Apple would do just because...not historically at least.

iPad's don't have curved edges so that's not the reason.

Examples:

I think it's more of a design choice because the X has a smaller screen with rounded corners. It looks better to have the rounded bottom corners than have just "go off screen" like on non-X phones.

It would be nice to fit 5, maybe 6, apps on the X dock tho.

If the change doesn’t translate into a functional difference, seems like an odd thing to put time into.

I guess I’m wondering if there is a purpose for the inconsistency.

Likely just an aesthetic difference. It emphasizes the curved corners of the X's screen.

Another example of inconsistency in the UI. Notice the iPad iOS 11 and iPhone X style dock when you swipe down.

It may not be additional functionality but it’s certainly sloppy and showing a lack of attention to detail.

How is it sloppy and shows a lack of attention to detail? If anything it SHOWS attention to detail because they thought that the rounded edges look better specifically on the iPad and iPhone X than on the other iPhones. If they weren't paying attention to that all devices would look the same, this was a deliberate chocie.

I think the new dock on the X is necessary when you add the new line that shows up at the bottom of the interface in apps and on the home screen. The old style dock wouldn't work.

The spacing would not look right on the 8. Unless they make the pins super tiny you won’t get even spacing around the dock and it’ll just look werid. There’s also not much room you can move up to make room to make it even.

all "free floating*" elements seem to be rounded on the homescreen. widgets and folders too.

but the icon bar on the bottom of the other iphones are not "free floating" and connected to the edge of the screen.

*for lack of a better word
