I was comparing the brightness last night between the 7 and the X. For some reason the 7 looked noticeably brighter at night, with both phones set to max and auto brightness off. I was about to start a thread complaining about it 
Then this morning I decided to try it again, this time adding the S8+. Happy to report that it is a bit brighter than the 7 and even the S8+ (at least indoor, more below). I wonder if there's some forced power management on the screen brightness on the X. The S8+ can get even brighter, though not manually selectable, but only while outside under full sun with auto brightness enabled.
In case anyone is interested to see. Brightness on this shot was metered on the X. All three phones on max brightness, and true tone disabled on the X. Very much enjoying the increased screen real estate over the 7 with just a tiny bit of increased body size.
PS I mentioned in another thread over the use of pentile pixels arrangement on the X, possibly making everything look fuzzy like other pentile displays did. Happy to report it is not the case.
