How does the front facing camera of the X compare with the one on the 7 in terms of low light? I take lots of photos with my kids in low light and this would be the only real reason I would want to upgrade. Thanks for any input.

They are both 7MP with a ƒ/2.2 aperture.... so really no difference. The image processing on the 8/x is better but that’s not going to make the image sensor larger or the aperture any wider.

I thought the front facing camera on the X was improved in some way from the 7? I just was not sure how well it performed it low light vs the 7 though I thought it was improved...

Here is a blurb on the ISP

“The iPhone 8 has a 12 megapixel wide-angle camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation plus a 7 megapixel, f/2.2 camera on the front - both identical to the iPhone 7. It also highlights the iPhone 8 as the only new iPhone not to get dual rear cameras.”

If I recall the front facing camera is a little tigher on the subject compared to the 7 for better selfies. However all the depth sensors and led dot projection etc really only enhance the portrait mode on the front camera and nothing else. Especially not going to enhance anything to do with low light images.

At least on paper. Someone might have have some comparison photos. Hopefully they can help you further.
