iPhone X frozen on Waze/won’t force restart

I had my iPhone X connected to Apple CarPlay this morning. I noticed the Waze app wouldn’t open in the car. I later found the app open on my phone but I couldn’t close the app or open any other apps. I also tried having Siri open an app like messages but that didn’t work either. It also won’t force restart. Any suggestions?

After connecting it to iTunes I found I couldn't use the phone to grant access. Then I went for recovery mode which worked. Everything was good after it restarted.
