I have a public transport app on my phone that operates by QR code. You hold your screen up to the reader terminal and it scans the QR code on screen. However, the terminal also accepts contactless payment, so if you don’t hold the screen in exactly the sweet spot, the phone detects the contactless option and Apple Pay takes over the screen. This means I have to dismiss it using the Home button.

Since iPhone X lacks a Home button and the Power button seems to summon Apple Pay on it, how would I dismiss the screen when it comes up accidentally? I can’t find any gestures on iOS 11 on a 7 Plus that would do it.

Any ideas?

Or swipe to the right while at the bottom of the screen. In the random pre-release videos, this had been a tip to just switch to a previously opened app instead of going to the home screen.
