How will in Apple authentication work with face ID?

So you're already in your phone and you open say a banking app that requires authentication… You're already looking at your phone. What happens now?

Seriously though, once in your phone, what do you do when you open an app that requires authentication? Like I said before you are already looking at your phone. Would we even need to authenticate when you open your banking app for example?
