"iPhone X is splash, water, and dust resistant and was tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty."

So, the same as iPhone 7 line.... oy...

You realize the iPhone 7 is water proof right? Yes, the term "water proof" means X number of feet under water. But, I shower with my iPhone 7 and I've filmed video under water several times. It's 100% water proof. Zero issues. I've split glasses of water on my iPhone 7. Zero issues.

That said, the iPhone X is not impressive.

No the iPhone 7 is not 100% water proof. Not even close. But thanks for posting.

Apple seems to be overly cautious in how they word things in terms of waterproofing. I think it's just to protect themselves. From what I don't know exactly.

this will be the same as what the iPhone 7 was and my 7 has been in a swimming pool, immersed for over 1 minute and multiple times and works perfect still

It's not? What about all the videos on YouTube of people placing their iPhone 7 completely underwater for hours at a time? Please, don't bore yourself with the technical BS. It's water proof enough for every day life - easily.

Correct. It's just for legal reasons. But, in REAL LIFE the iPhone 7 is indeed water proof. Hell, I've tested it myself dozens of times. It has never, ever, had issues under water or getting very wet.

Nothing is water proof. It's IP67, just like the iPhone 7. AFAIK, there aren't any phones that cover water damage.

No phone manufacturer has a warranty which covers liquid damage now, nor are they likely to. Waterproofing is not reliable enough to make this part of the warranty, especially when the seals can fail due to an impact which doesn't otherwise damage the phone.

And more critically, if you're going to warranty water damage you'd better make sure the phone is impervious to intentional water damage, because if you don't your stores are going to be full of people getting new phones by dunking them in the pool for a few hours (just to get a new battery, or get rid of a blemish on the screen, etc). The potential for abuse on this is huge.

This is why even the Series 2 AW, which is intended to be used while swimming, does not officially have water damage coverage in its warranty. If your S2 AW is water damaged Apple almost certainly WILL replace it -- if there's no other damage -- but by not officially putting it in the warranty they prevent people from using water damage as an excuse to get a replacement device.

Of course not. It's ip67 as stated.

You know it's not a GoPro or a scuba computer, right? IP67 is common waterproofing for electronics. Hell, I have GPS sports watches that only had IP67 waterproof ratings. If you need more than that, you're going to need more than an iPhone anyway.

Incorrect. Numerous instances of people dropping them in sinks etc and the phone is ruined. Not outlandish to expect more...

From what I'm seeing the iPhone X is not as water resistant as the iPhone 7 or even 8. I put mine two inches underwater for less than 10 seconds to film in a spring and first the Face ID went out. Eventually (even after rice) the screen completely shut down. Luckily I have Asurion and they cover water damage. Apple is ****ed for this.

Rice is never going to do anything. If you must use something, use silica gel.

Ive used mine in the pool and beach multiple times over the year. Submerged it and all for a few seconds for some pictures. I havent had any issues. However since then Ive dropped my phone and the crack compromises that capability now XD
