Is anyone going ceaseless? I’m afraid the stainless steel will be as soft as the Apple Watch and start showing scratches within a day or so. Is the stainless steel band a harder version on the phone?

I bought a clear case and went right from the box to the case but would love to have it out, it’s a beautiful phone but that band worries me more that the glass

The phone is heavier than normal man, makes me feel like if I drop it then it’s done. That’s why I put a screen protector and clear case on mine as soon as I took the plastic off.

Glass on the front and back, stainless steel band. Makes me too nervous to put a scratch on this beauty.

What's the point of choosing the Silver phone for it's "shiny" stainless steel band, and then covering it up with a case?
That model brings back bad memories of my 3GS with it's scratch-adorned band.
No thanks! That's the main reason why I ordered the space-gray X.

I already have a case to mine in when I get it. I wasn't as worried about scratches on the bands as I am about dropping it. As has been pointed out the scratches can be removed with little effort.

nope, I have a leather case but will prob not use it. First Iphone i can hold comfortably without a case

Unless you plan on selling it, does it really matter? You can buff out the scratches later on anyway or you probably won’t notice them.

I watched the drop test by Everythingapplepro on YouTube. It survived multiple drops up to 5 feet. The steel band held up amazingly well. The glass front and back did not break at all, not even any real scratches. The 8 that was dropped at the same time broke at 3 feet.

A CNET drop test the X cracked at 3 feet, so a certain element of chance with these drop tests.

Debating about going careless on my silver iPhone X as well. The phone is gorgeous, so at the same time, I'd be really upset if I even get a tiny scratch on it so I still put a clear case on it.

I also have the stainless steel Apple Watch and I haven't gotten any scratches on it so far. I would think the steel is the same on the phone.

It won’t scratch anymore than the watch. From a distance it looks the same.

Whats the point of it being a "beauty" then?

Im running this baby naked all day. Of course I look like im pulling out a solid gold bar every time I take it out, but its so worth it :D

Firstly... Stainless steel scratches very easily, especially polsished SS which is what’s on the silver version.

Even brushed matte SS will show scratches, it’ll just be much less noticeable. Apple likes everything shiny so it’s pretty much why they went with the hey look at me finish for the silver model.

Now the space gray is a whole different ballgame since it’s coated with something which will make it less notable for scratches, looks pretty much like the Apple Watch. To the naked eye you won’t really be able to notice any wear and tear on the space gray unless it’s dropped, or dinged.

As for polished? I doubt the space gray can be polished with anything since it’s dipped in something to make it appear black. As for the silver and untouched band, Yes you can polish it. However and I say this with such caution, cape cod is a very dangerous product to use on an electric device. The stuff is no joke and the chemical is harsh. I have used it on my watches in the past for hairline scratches, and when I use it I have rubber gloves on and need to carefully place tape on the parts I do not want polished. This is on a watch, which may be a lot more expensive than a phone, but isn’t electronic and I only use it on the band, not the watch face or even really near it.

With the phone if you get that stuff on the screen or inside the speakers on the bottom where most of the scratches will happen, you are asking for some serious problems because that stuff will destroy your phone and I doubt using something like cape cod is under Warrenty.

basically off-topic but..

a S.Jobs blurb:

July 2004: Mortality must have been on his mind when I saw him again in Cupertino the next summer for a Newsweek interview. When I pulled out my iPod—I was using it as a recording device—he was horrified to see that it was covered by a plastic case, something that he considered an abomination. He urged me to discard it. “I think the stainless steel looks beautiful when it wears,” he told me. “Probably it’s like us. I mean, I’m going to be 50 next year, so I’m like a scratched-up iPod myself.”

When those SS bands get scratched up, the best thing to take to it are some sandpaper for a brushed mod.

I did this with my 3G, and it was pretty neat to freshen up the phone after a year or so of wear.

Lol that was Steve’s thinking, he was a man who just did things as he thought they should be done. This is also coming from a man who refused to wear deodorant and was a little insane in certain ways, a genius, but a little crazy.

As for the bands around the phone. Is what it is, even with a case on, hairline scratches will appear. I loved the 7, 8 also is the same, those brushed bands hold up so well.

I know lol. I have a liquid crystal case on by Spigen so I can see everything. Would be nice to hold it without a case but I just won’t take that chance hahaha.

I would be more concerned about the glass back than the stainless steel side.
Just get AC+.

Mine has a few very faint scratches already. I imagine it will look pretty rough when it’s time to trade it in for the next iPhone.
