Ok, so maybe a tenuous link to iPhone but the EarPods that came with my XR are really toying with me, lol.

The left earbud will, randomly, stop working completely. Remove them, turn the lightning plug around, wipe them down, nothing works. Tried the EarPods in my iPad Pro to rule out the iPhone being faulty in some way, left ear still gubbed.

Plugged them into my XR today to randomly check before taking them back to the store, and the buggers are working again. This is the second time they’ve done this.

Any ideas?

Take them back and replace if you like them. Keep in mind alot of times the applestore doesn't have the replacement earpods in Stock at the store(they have earpods that have the retail box but usally don't have the ones that come with white cardboard box) so you might have to wait a day or 2 and then come back to get them replaced.
