Hello everyone,
Yesterday I have bought the Xr 128 GB for my wife, for two reasons:
- her 4 years old 6Plus was nearly dead, with plenty of issues
- I decided to keep my 7 Plus for another year instead of buying now a Xs Max and passing the 7 Plus to my wife
The purchasing process at the Apple store here in the UAE was really smooth and quick despite the fact I didn’t make any reservation: 10 minutes and I was already out of the store with the color she wanted (the beautiful PRODUCT RED) and the desired memory size (128 GB).
I have also purchased the only case that the Apple store was offering for the Xr, the Otterbox.
Visually speaking the phone looks great, especially because of the super vibrant red color that is really amazing.
The bezels are pretty big, it’s true, but they do not really disturb me.
Screen quality is more than ok for the average user, so I would really recommend everyone that is still in doubt to buy an Xr to just go into a store and have a look: I bet that the majority of you won’t miss the OLED display considering the extra cost of an Xs Max.
Coming for a 6 Plus I was a little bit concerned about the learning curve to get used with the new gestures and features of the Xr, but after few minutes my wife was already super confident with her phone.
I must admit that I don’t miss the button at all and that Apple did an amazing job with the new gestures.
The phone setup was pretty easy and as soon as the back up from Cloud was restored, I immediately tested the WiFi connection with Ookla and the results between the Xr and my 7 Plus were identical.
Didn’t tested the LTE calls yet, but what I can tell is that I always seen the LTE (as usual here) on the screen and it never dropped to 3G.
Will let you know over the next few days how is going on the LTE side.
One small note about the case: nice, it looks really protective but it is really hard to insert the phone in it and to remove it (if you have to recharge the phone on a dock, for instance).
Something you should consider when choosing your case.
Overall speaking it looks like an amazing phone that will satisfy a large spectrum of customers.
I will let you know how does it perform on LTE over the next days but I feel that everything will work as expected.
