I am on my second phone and the same symptoms.

Plug in or unplug from charger and try to use an app. -50% of the time it will totally lockup and reboot.

This happens on wired or wireless charger. I am also seeing this happen occasionally when just using the phone for heavy use. For example go into settings menu right after watching a youtube video and menus will not load/spin. Go out and to to open another app and the app icon will grey out like when you tap it, but then the whole phone freezes up and after a minute or so it will reboot.

I have tried the following:
- Backup and restore iPhone using iTunes instead of iCloud
- Restore phone as a brand new phone with nothing on it
- Restore again from iCloud
- Got phone replaced, although probably from the same batch with possibly the same issue?
- I also connected with apple support and they ran diagnostics on it and confirmed there is a issue but couldn't say what it was.

My wife has a iPhone XS Max 256GB in gold bought at the same time and it seems to not have any issues. I do notice that with mine however the problems are mostly when changing power state (I think?). Plug into charger, remove from charger, or heavy use, etc. I am wondering if this has anything to do with issues with apple's new in-house designed power management chip...

As I said I am on my second iPhone XS Max 256GB black but both came from Best Buy so I am inclined to think if this is a hardware issue and both phones came from the same batch they may both have the same problem. I am going to see what the Apple store can do for me as far as warranty replacement.

Anyone else having similar issues or is this just a one off thing that I am experiencing?

Thanks!

I am guessing that there are still some iOS 12 issues that are plaguing users. I returned two 512 Max phones as well, but for connectivity reasons. I’ve gone back to my 8+ as my primary phone and have found that since the iOS 12 ‘upgrage’ I’ve encountered freezes and crashes that I’ve not experienced with this phone since I purchased it. I have been a Mac/Apple users since a teen in ‘91 and I can’t recall a time where I’ve been as disappointed in Apple as I am now. My experience with both the new phones and the new iOS has been horrible. I’ve been frustrated with things before, but it just seems to keep building.
