The speakers are surprisingly good for a smartphone. I'm not going to be tossing out my bluetooth speakers, but in a pinch, yeah the Max's speakers are quite listenable.

Is it me or I didn’t notice much difference from my X? Maybe slightly louder but they are quite similar.

I’m doing a test run on the speakers now, mainly for battery life purposes, but yeah, these speakers sound really good. The stereo setup makes the difference.

My personal Favorite feature since it was introduced on the iPhone 7, was the stereo speakers. I take most of my phone calls and I use them on speakerphone, and I can leave my phone clearly across the room and still hear and have a conversation with somebody with no issue at all. 3D Touch is my second favorite, almost tied with the stereo speakers.

sorry but the XS Max speakers are NOT great, the stereo has a weird effect to make it sound more outwards but it sounds weird like an effect is on, and the loudness isn't that great

Maybe “your” MAX speaker are not good but mine are quite good. A bit better than my X which was great. Most others think so, too. To me they are more loud at lower volume levels and the sound is richer.

Xs Max is around 10 decibels louder than X. Measured them both last night.
I had another Max and it was around 7 decibels louder so they do vary from phone to phone.
One was slightly brighter too.

Louder, and far better stereo separation. Though I think the audio separation may be a bit of a cheat using some type of simulated surround algorithm such as Q-Sound or similar. Driving with my phone in my pocket (and a ring coming through) I actually thought the phone was in my center console, not my pocket.

Audio output is higher judging by recording meters on my Sony video camera, but it wasn't that much of a difference.

Below is a sample I recorded between the 2 phones.
