Hey guys

I have an iPhone XS from 2020 and I dropped it once a few months back and the repair service said that the battery got dented or whatever but I thought it was a sales pitch to get me to replace the battery also (aside from the screen). It's at 86% right now and it doesn't really last that long when I go out and stuff I usually am on instagram or on messenger apps to meet up with friends but when I get home I almost always have to charge it back again. Now this is not really a bother, however I am going abroad for 6 months and I plan on doing some daytrips and hiking while I'm there. I feel like I could use a better battery. Also the phone starts to get hot during some apps and especially the settings when I open it.

I don't have the budget for the 13 right now as I'm trying to spend the money I have on activities during my trips. I can exchange my XS for 130 euro discount at a shop to pay 550 euro for a new iPhone 12. Is this actually worth doing if I want to upgrade? Or will I not see a big improvement? Should I risk using my XS until I can get something better in a year? The phone getting hot is a concern for me as I don't want to have to buy a new phone in the country I'll be in.

What do you think?

If you're trying to save money for your trip and you'll be out galavanting, maybe an SE would be good: easier to carry, newer chip, cheaper, less worried if stuff happens to it.

As well, if you're stoked about taking really cool photos with your camera, I say think of reframing the money you're 'saving for the trip' as the money you're 'spending for an awesome camera to have photos to remember the trip.' In other words, maybe buying the best phone you can afford is part of your trip's expenses.

...Also, maybe check the Apple Refurbished stock online. You could trade in your XS for credit and get a discount on a phone from Apple. Don't know if that's an option where you are, but throwing that out in case.

Thanks for the reply. I am a photographer so I already have a good camera haha. Regarding the SE. I am a tech lover and I really do like my smartphones as I use them a lot and I don't feel like going 'back' to an SE after using the flagships you know. I also have big hands so the 12 would be a good fit I feel but I have read people say that the battery is not that good also? I just wonder if it is worth spending 550+ euro on it still.
