IPhone Zoom Too Much

So when I double tap on a picture in my photos or zooms in the normal amount and looks good. Whenever I open a picture I sent/receive in messages it zooms in way too much. How do I reduce the zoom on my iPhone?

Any help? Or is this normal?

I'm guessing it is because the picture in messages is lower resolution. So it zooms the same amount as always, but on the lower res picture it looks like more.

There is no way to set the default double tap zoom, you will just have to pinch to zoom.
