iPhone4 volume issues - too faint

I searched google and these forums but didn't find much so now I'm curious if its my imagination.

My phone just doesn't seem very loud. The external speakers that is. Text alerts, etc just seem, well, not loud.

I've got the ringer volume all the way up. Am I missing something?
