so I looked at the cellular usage and my iphone already has a lifetime usage of 5 days? Didn't look before I restored from my iphone 3gs backup but I could swear my 3gs said something like 2 or 3 days. I thought lifetime meant the lifetime of that device, not the account. Although looking at my old phone now (I did a full reset of it) and everything is at 0, including lifetime.

This isn't a bug. Its done by design.

You're right, poor choice of words on my part.

From my point of view it seems like a poor decision. I view the "Lifetime" as a per device thing, not a per person thing. Like the odometer on a car. Why would I care how much I talked on previous phones? I just want to know how much usage this particular has.

I'd love to find a way to "restore" my SMS, etc. but not this lifetime counter.
