Seems like we have a new target, which seems highly plausible based upon the rumor that Apple wanted to capitalize on the Back to School season.

We still don’t know if Apple is planning an August 7 event for its iPhone 5. But if it is, the device might be made available to consumers a little over a month later on Friday, September 21.

According to App4phone.fr, citing a Chinese accessory maker, Apple shared the date so that accessory makers can begin preparing for the late September launch. That seems a bit fishy to us, however, since Apple typically keeps launch dates close to the vest.

The latest iPhone rumors suggest Apple is preparing to unveil its next big mobile device a bit earlier than anticipated to do battle with Samsung’s Galaxy S III, which has reportedly sold 10 million units thus far. That’s quite a bit of opportunity lost for Apple, so it makes sense it’ll want to get its iPhone 5, a device allegedly coming with a bigger screen, smaller dock connector*and an aluminum back, into consumer hands ASAP.

there's no reason for apple to announce a new phone and launch it 45 days later; it would completely kill sales of the 4s. it's more likely apple will continue its trend of announcing the product and selling it the second friday after. as for the actual announcement, it'll probably happen right before ios 6 ships this fall (first day of fall is september 22).

Sept 21 will be iOS6 download/availability. The phone will come out 2-3 weeks later well into October, just like last year.

It certainly sounds plausible. The thing that gets me is that seems odd that Apple would tell an accessory maker the release date. In the past, accessory makers have always gone by the same rumours we have, hence the slight lag time between the release of the new iPhone and third party accessories.

Is the correct answer.

If you're gonna mention the past, at least reference it correctly. iOS 5 was available on Oct. 12 and the 4S two days later on Oct. 14th.

If the most current rumors are correct, it seems Apple would announce the new iPhone around Sept. 12th, and launch iOS 6 on 19th. Then, they would launch the new iPhone a few days later.

No way will they announce a new iPhone more than 2 weeks before it launches (that's just common business sense)

So lemme get this straight; this "report" is from a website with little to no track record/plausibility regarding product rumors and is reporting rumors from 3rd party manufacturers?

One is better off asking their dog groomer or local Wal-Mart greeter for Apple news.

I doubt Apple would tell the release date to accessory manufactures. There are just too many and most would leak the date.

They could have given them a deadline to have things done by, but that just means the launch date would be later....october

Apple has no incentive to share release dates with accessory makers. How does that make Apple money? It doesn't.

Apple will not announce a new device so far before availability. Like others have said- two week waiting period tops.

This is not Apple's first rodeo. They are richer than God. They know how to launch a product. If the past five iPhones does not convince you than you can not be convinced. There is a clear pattern they follow every announcement/launch. I don't get how people insist this year will be any different.

No matter when it comes out, is it possible for Apple to make a unibody iPhone? The back and frame can be made from a single piece of metal, with holes and cuts for camera, sensors, LED light, speakers, connectors, and signal transmission.

They'll put the iphone 4s on sale for a lower $99 price and still accept Pre orders for Iphone 5's a month before it releases. They'll bypass Galaxy sales in pre orders alone without it being released....

Another thread of nothing but speculation.

Nobody knows. The date has not been announced. In fact, we don't even know for sure that a new Apple phone is coming out this year at all.

Exciting times ahead :)
