Just noticed this today on my iPhone the rosegold is different on one part of the phone. The camera doesn't show it as bad as it really is, I've had the phone mostly protected in a case so it can't be that

Take a photo from directly above it. I can see it pretty clear here but I'm not sure because of the angle.

Edit: It looks like perhaps a case stained part of it?

I'll take another picture now it's only been in a clear case so I don't know how that could stain it?

I definitely still see it. For me, it looks like the anodization has been affected somehow. I'm assuming this wasn't noticeable when you bought it?

It looks like where your hand would be. Something on the inside of the case, while your fingers press on it, perhaps? Or you touching it hard with fingers while holding before case. It doesn't look like you used a case much.

Have tried cleaning it with a microfiber cloth with a small fan of rubbing alcohol to see If that removes any outside staining. Unless the clear case you used, caused some Form of reaction with the aluminum.

That's what I was thinking. I've seen that before but rarely. The case has some type of curing chemical on it that stains/discolors the anodization. While it's usually rare, it's not impossible. So if cleaning doesn't work, the phone likely will stay like that. So either OP will need to cover it up with a different case or try their hand at the Apple store.

I don't know whether it is because of the cover or something else but I find it depressing because you don't invest your money into something that expensive only to find out it changes color like a chameleon :(:confused:

It does look like the case either stained or discoloured your phone.
As a matter of curiousity, what case are you using?

A bit dramatic don't you think?

The OP keeps it in a case so any "chameleon color changes" aren't seen anyway.... PLUS it could be the OP's "fault" through the choice of case or some other reason.

i use one of apples leather cases and one of those clear cases i don't use any others, I've not had the phone long so it can't have worn away in a matter of weeks! when i got the phone it wasn't something i was looking out for on it, if it was the way i was holding it i would expect to see on both sides rather than just one side.

its always been in a case..there are no scuffs or any other damage.

When you go into the Apple store just be aware that the Apple Warranty

http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ios-warranty-document-us.html

"... does not apply: ... (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (c) to damage caused by use with a third party component or product that does not meet the Apple Product’s specifications (Apple Product specifications are available at www.apple.com under the technical specifications for each product and also available in stores); ... (h) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the Apple Product;

Hopefully they'll be receptive.
