Hey all, me again,

I was in the pub last night after my genius bar debarkle (see other post) and noticed how many people in there have one, in a pub of about 50 i saw 8 iPhones, not including mine and my mates!

I'm wondering if the iphone is starting to become a 'common' phone and my inner snob is wondering where to go ;)

Help! :p

So you are saying that you saw a few of the 17 million sold so far?

fascinating.................................

Why would this bother you?
It's a popular phone.

*shrug*

Mass production is hardly a guarantor of exclusivity, unless of course a product is a flop.

And then what you be crying about?

;)

I used to know one person with the iPhone. It felt like it was only going to be held by a few really lucky or pretty well off people. Once everyone saw how amazing it was though it became more common to go grab one. Obviously they're mass produced and they sell like crazy but it's kind of like watching one of your favorite indie bands grow into some huge mainstream success.

Except that indie band was already a multi-billion, 30 year old, publicly traded corporation ;)

Do you remember the "RAZR"?

Well the iPhone is the new cool thing.

Most of the people I hang around with have iPhones now.

Girlfriend: First gen iPhone and iPod touch
My Cousin: iPhone 3G (upgraded from original iPhone)
Brother: iPhone 3G
Brother's Girl: First gen iPhone
Brother's Friend: iPhone 3G
Brother's other friend: iPhone 3G with Cracked Glass
A few kids I skate with: Original iPhones, iPhone 3Gs and iPod touchs
My other cousin: 2nd gen iPod touch
Me: iPhone 3G, original iPhone and first gen iPod touch

So yeah... I'm pretty much surrounded by iPhones daily around here.
When I first got my iPod touch... I didn't see anyone else with one. Then when I was at the airport... I saw the iPhone for the first time and that's pretty much it. Now, they're everywhere.

Not many people have one here. Most have phones from other major companies. Blackberry and Nokia are probably the most common here.

I just like seeing all the idiots at the bar who still think it is cool to own one. Dont get me wrong I things its a cool phone but no longer cool to own.

People pull it out every 5 minutes look at it just to feel cool...LOSERS.

I think it depends on where you live. I only know two other people in my area that have them. I've only seen one other person at the bar with one and one person on campus. They just aren't a big thing up here. I work for an Apple reseller and we sell a lot of the iPod Touch but most people don't understand the extra appeal of the iPhone and don't want to pay for the data plan.

..."as he quickly looks around to make sure no one is looking" and types into MR forums and quickly puts back in pocket....ahhh I'm still cool..."no one saw me":D:D

I own the 1st Gen iTouch and been holding off on the iPhone since day one. My contract expires in September / November so plan on switching to an iPhone then!

It's crazy in Toronto, Canada.

I sweat I see as many iPhone headphones as normal iPod headphones - and that's A LOT.

That's sad people should upgrade their headphones. The iPhone ones suck and if they do stay in my ear their quality is just eh

I know 3 people with one, and I see someone with one on campus at least once a week, but it isn't that common here yet. If I bring my phone out with people that aren't close friends, or with friends I haven't seen in a while I still get, "Is that an iPhone? Can I see?"

Edit: I do know a lot more people that are getting touch screen phones though. A year ago only my boyfriend had a touch screen phone, now for every friend I meet up with who goes "you got an iPhone?" I go, "you got a new phone too?"

No-one else around here has one, but then right now I'm the only one around here. I should look up more often...

As the attempts at clones proliferate, and people use cases, it isn't always possible to identify one at 20 paces as it used to be.

I think I know what you mean...

When I first bought my iPhone, I was the only person at work that I knew of that had a iPhone (work at a casino), and everyone was like "whoa, is that a iPhone?" and now a lot more people have them, so what makes it so special?

When I was going to school, I bought a couple of things that were cool at the time and then everyone started doing it...

When the Moto Razr came out, I was like one of the only people to have them, and then when I bought my iPhone and got rid of it, it seems like everyone in the world had one of those...

I think thats what you mean by "your inner snob"... even though i don't really care who has what, its just nice to have something you can show off... (so don't think i'm stuck up :p)

Next up...a Ferrari!

That tends to happen when a company begins to flood the market with it's product.

Ya, but they have the mic and the remote control button.

Replacement sets with those features are still kind of pricey.
