Am I right in thinking the "Photography" includes phones as tool?

Don't worry; I don't mind, just asking as it may be 'another' excuse not to take my camera anywhere.

One could argue that an iPhone is a fine camera to use when out and about.
I don’t find that I use mine for photos very much at all.

I’m a professional photographer. I use my phone for anything that’s not paying clients, with the odd exception. The simple fact of the matter is the oft used trope - the best camera is the one you have with you. Most people are never without their phones.

Many of the images posted in the POTD thread are indeed from iPhone cameras. There are also other subforums within MR where people share their images as well --in the Community Subforum area, there is a section called the Picture Gallery, plus in the iPhone subforum area, threads devoted to images from specific iPhone models.

I use my dedicated cameras most of the time for shooting but there have been times either when I'm out somewhere or even at home when I've seen something interesting or had an idea for something I'd like to shoot and I grab my iPhone and fire off a few shots.

The Photography subforum here shares and discusses images from all kinds of cameras and formats ranging from film (slides, 35mm, large-format and instant film cameras such as Polaroid) to digital cameras (cell phones, DLSRs, Mirrorless). Photography has grown and expanded as new tools have come along over the years!

Sure, phone cameras work well. Obviously gazillions of people use them to pump trillions of images (some exceptional) to Insta or whatever. The “camera I have with me” is usually a dedicated camera because that’s what I like to do, and hey, it’s easy. My phone is there too, but rarely to take images.

To add, if the question is whether this forum includes phone cameras, it certainly does. They are cameras in any sense of the word and people do photography with them :) .

We have no requirements as to what camera people use. Even other cell cameras are acceptable! 😱

Personally I do t use my iPhone for taking photos very often. Nothing to do with IQ. I just don’t enjoy the experience.
