Adding more cameras to the iPhone seems to be handcuffing yourself for future designs, unless you can integrate all sensors into one.

Each year we will need at least 3 camera bumps or more to keep up with the competition. Will be interesting to see how they iterate moving forward...

What else can they add at this point? Unless they are going to add more selfie cameras, I don't see the need for a fourth lens. Let alone 6 or more.

That's the point. You either are stuck with 3 camera bumps on your phone or they get integrated into one.

They will get bigger sensors, I am willing to bet that the number of Cameras will stop at about 4, and that a Periscope lense will be included in most phones in the future.

- Standard Wide
- Super Wide
- ToF Camera
- Periscope with 2x, 5x & 10x Optical Zoom (Doubles as Telephoto)

Basically phones like the Huawei P30 Pro are a representation of what could become a standard down the road, and from there companies will keep growing the sensor sizes in creative ways.

This is probably the most versatile and “future proof” setup one can get right now:

I believe most OEMs will work in this sort of setup and find ways of improving it, I see the rumours around Samsung having a setup like this growing, wont be surprised if Apple are doing it to.

I'm concerned about the 2021 port-less iPhone rumor. How would people charge their phones at airports or onboard a plane, for example? I guess the airports would have to change the charging stations and add charging pads. Also, with charging pads, it's easier to inadvertantly pickup or steal someone's phone.

Or people would just charge their phones before they go to the airport? I have never seen anybody charging their phones at an airport...

They need to put a 5x zoom on the iPhone 12 in my opinion.

Due to the S11 having a 5x zoom and the P40 having a 10x zoom, this has more or less been confirmed lately.

Why does there have to be a camera bump at all? Surely we can make the casing thick enough to remove the need for the camera to protrude the case the way it does.

Wowsers. And then we're back to "you're holding it wrong".
If you make the phone overall thicker to match the camera bump size, it will be quite a thick phone. Maybe about 1cm or so. On top of that, people would want to use cases and this makes them even thicker.

How about a self charging phone based off ambient lights sensors and gyroscope rotation, similar to citizen eco drive and solar watches??

I will be okay with anything beyond 2x but please make it high quality and match the specs to the main sensor. I don't need 5x tele with f2.8 and 1/6 sensor size (an example) or something similar.

I understand. But, the only reason I use a case is to protect the camera lens.. because of the camera bump.

I agree! The Samsung S11 is apparently coming with a 48mp 5x zoom lens which is a big 1/2” sensor, and it’s due to be a f1.8 or f2.0 which is spot on.

i hope apple will innovate and put the three cameras into one two or the way it looks better. because in my opinion the iphone 11 has a super really good camera but it occupies a very big part from the behind (not in the pro).
and for me the best looking iphone is the two cameras (x or xs) or only one with bigger screen like xr.
so i hope the make something new cause if not we’re going to have 6 cameras iphone in 4y
