I was pondering about this. Now that Ivy has broke Apple's iPhone life cycle by introducing a new mid tier iPhone, which iPhone will replace as mid tier for 2014?

If it wasn't for the 5c, this year would been (w/ contract)
iPhone 5s - $199, $299, $399
iPhone 5 - $99
iPhone 4s - free

2014
iPhone 6 - $199, $299, $399
iPhone ? - $99
iPhone 5 - free

It would been the iPhone 5s. With the new plastic back design, will Apple need to jam the 5s guts into the 5c body?

I would expect to see an iPhone Xc with every iPhone release from now on. This keeps the free phone within 1 year release of the new phone.

2014 should look like this

iPhone 6 - $199...
iPhone 6c - $99 - This will be the plastic version of the 5S but in the 6 form factor.
iPhone 5c - Free

The bigger question is 2015. My guess is they are going to do away with the 's' rotation to show faster innovation.
