iPhoto 08 question: what does "HOLD" mean?

If you look at Apple's support, they removed hold in iPhoto 7.0.1. It was apparently used for easy sorting of events, but the support article claims cut and paste was deemed better.

I thought it was just kind of like "last" or "previous"... it just seems to hold the last event you looked at so you can get back to it quickly.
