iphoto 09 editing issue...or is it just me?

I've just loaded up iPhoto 09 and it's driving me crazy. If I edit a photo it appears not to save the modified version even in the Modified folder. If I select the image and hit Show file, Finder comes up and displays the original image before editing. This is causing a violent computer threatening rage in me. The non-destructive editing is moronic. I want to upload the modified image to my Wordpress blog but can't as it isn't really modified at all it appears. There was no problem in iPhoto 06 or 08 and now there is. Maybe it's just me and I'm overlooking something but I've shown this to the Apple Blackshirt that works in my store (I'm a reseller) and he can't get it to work either. Can anyone help?
