iPhoto '09 will not open :/

iPhoto does not seem to be working for me :( i click on the icon and it bounces. it opens but freezes on the same screen (see below) and then the loading icon appears and then iPhoto doesn't do anything at all.

if i reinstalled it, wud i lose all my events and stuff??
