how much mem is iPhoto using

I have just received a 27 inch i7 iMac as a replacement for an unrepairable 24 inch iMac

ok I have used the CPU disk for iLife after transferring my photos and letting iPhoto do its thing ,just browsing them uses up all but 9.5 meg of ram ?
I have the default installed 4 gb of ram
is this normal or do I need a lot more ram ?

My iPhoto '11 is actively searching for "faces"chewing up over 90% of my cpu cycles. Pulled up the activity monitor and show 430meg - 450meg of Ram being used. I have 56gig of photos..

That being said, I am not seeing the ram usage that you are seeing. Maybe the install/upgrade swallowed up some ram in the process. I have since rebooted my iMac since my upgrade this afternoon from '09.

thanks for the info

maybe it was because of the new (like 4 hours old ) I have been without the iMac due to repairs and the replacement time for five weeks.

it seems better now after a reboot but I will shell out for another 8 gig to take it to 12 gig
