iPhoto 11 external editor

My wife was trying to select an external editor in iPhoto on her iMac. She went I to preferences -> Advanced and selected the Edit photos in pull down. When she selects in Photoshop Elements... iPhoto locks up and she has to force quit it. When I try the exact same thing on my MBP I get a finder window for selecting the application to use.

Any ideas of what the problem might be?
