So here it is now past 2am and I just finally got iPhoto 11 to work...

I received my copy of iLife today and very excitedly began the install around 3pm this afternoon. For me the problem was that it was sticking at the screen with the message saying "writing new iphoto library data". The blue progress bar would hang at about 10% complete and stay, with the gray wheel turning. I even left if there for 4 hours while going out to dinner.
After a lot of reading it seems like unfortunately there are a ton of issues with the new iPhoto which is really disappointing. Even for me because I have always said apple is great because what they put out just works, but this didn't.
I tried several things. The first I read and tried was to delete a few files in the iphoto library. This stopped iphoto from trying to write the new library data however, I could only see a couple of my events.
Next, I restored my old iphoto 8 from time machine. I then held option and command while opening iphoto and selected all the boxes and repaired everything. I then removed all the videos I had in my iphoto events. I restarted my computer then deleted Iphoto 8. Next I reinstalled only iphoto 11 from the iLife disk. For some reason it failed 2 times before it eventually was successful. I then repaired my disk permissions. Next I then held option and command and opened iPhoto and selected boxes 1,2,5. This time when it asked to write new iphoto library data it worked.
Im sure a few of those things weren't necessary to get it to work properly. Personally I think it doest like videos in the library. Anyways thats everything I did and now it works for me so I guess I am happy.
I am a little more then surprised that Apple would release this software with so many obvious flaws. But in the end I am happy with the update over 08' I really like the places feature. Then again if I had 09' to begin with it probably wouldn't, for me, have been worth all this for the update.
