iPhoto 5 automatically scaling photos. NO!!!

We've started running several slideshows at our company lately using iPhoto 5 and it works great. However, even though it may start out functioning correctly, all of a sudden, portrait oriented pictures automatically start scaling to fill the screen. The checkbox under settings is unchecked, so why does iPhoto spontaniously desire to scale my pictures?

We've been using a mac mini, and today we tried my powerbook and my powerbook did the same thing!!

Suggestions?
