i can't find this info at MR (well, i didn't read through 6 pages of discussions on iLife 05, sorry...) or apple.com...

anyone know what movie formats are supported in iPhoto 5? i saw mpeg being mentioned... my camera (canon s230) takes movies in avi format. (but a weird avi since QT has no problem playing it...)

i can't see iPhoto 5 not supporting a format used by one of the most popular digital camera makers, so i assume it's supported... but i appreciate any help.

Well, .avi files are really just "wrappers". That means that it's a just a single file that includes both an audio and video track. The two streams could be in a large variety of formats... for example it could be uncompressed PCM audio and (one of the many variants of) MPEG4 video; or MP3 audio and one of the older Windows Media Video (before WMV8, I think).

So, the answer is a definate maybe. :D I'm not sure what kind of formats your camera records in, there should be someway to get file information about the clips and then checkto see if that is supported.
