I have several AVI files that show up in iPhoto as such. They have the correct names (ie MVI_0719.AVI) and they have the correct sizes in the info window (ie 120 MB, etc.), however the thumbnail is just a grey dashed line with the movie camera icon in the lower left corner and the duration in the lower right.

When I click on these files as if to play them, absolutely nothing happens. When I look at these files through finder in the correct folder, the files have sizes of 40 KB (give or take) and the JPG extension. When I do a search for the file through finder, the returned result indicates the file has Zero KB for a size and tells me Quicktime cannot recognize the file type.

What the heck happened here? What happened to my movies? Why would iPhoto display one set of info, yet Finder displays two more sets of info, depending on how I look for these?

Specs are iPhoto 6.0.1 and Quicktime 7.0.4 on Mac OS 10.3.9; running on TiBook 1ghz with 1 GB of RAM.

EDIT: Okay so it gets even more bizarre. If I right click the file in iPhoto and select "Duplicate" then search for the file, I see two; one in Originals which when clicked displays it can't be read and one in Data which opens Quicktime and displays the first frame of the movie, but when played it is just a still image. The slider bar moves immediately to the right.
