Iphoto 8 editing question

When editing pictures on Iphoto, does it save a duplicate picture of the original with the changes on the harddrive?

Will the original file still be there?

on my harddrive I will have the original picture and an edit picture? Won't that take up more space?

Is there a way to get the original back on iphoto, if so how? and will it delete the edit photo from the harddrive automatically ?

Select the Photo.
Photos > Revert to Original.
