I'm happy with iPhoto 6 but want to mask an object & get rid of the background so I have just the object. Is there a simple programme that can do that please?

OS X Leopard Preview does this.

Open the image in Preview, and up the top where the Select tool is, click and hold that button and choose Instant Alpha. Click and drag the area you would like to remove. Enter to finalise. Apple-K to crop.

Is that what you were after?

I've installed Leopard (had it but not installed it!!) & I see it's the Extract Shape
option I need!
