iphoto and itunes

how do i tranfer all my iphoto pictures to an external harddrive so i dont have files on my laptop.

why everytime i play a song on itunes they save it on my laptop harddrive even if the file is on an external hard drive , is there any way i could stop that?

for iTunes: go to iTunes>preferences>advanced and click on the check mark which says Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library

FYI, the procedure for iPhoto is exactly the same....
