iPhoto and multitouch on a MacBook Pro

I have a current MBP and have become incredibly frustrated by multitouch within iPhoto - it's crap!

For example, click on 'edit', zoom in, and then use two fingers to try and navigate around the photo - its a couple of seconds behind! Rubbish.

Is that a software or hardware oversight?

What graphic card, iPhoto version and kind of photos (JPEG or RAW, xy MP) do you use?

9400M or 9600M GT - haven't a clue why there's two or which one it is using, iPhoto 8.1.1, mainly JPEG, sometimes RAW (same happens on both).
