Ok, need some advice here. I just got a video ipod, i have a very large collection of hq pics 30GB worth, that I use in Adobe PS and Bridge, which keeps it organized well. Is there a way to import some of my favorites to iphoto without making duplicates of them since they are large. I am running out of space on my hd. Basically, I want my pics to remain as is, but want a iphoto album that shows my good pics, without duplicating. If I just drag it into iPhoto, it says "copying" or something like that and it takes a bit of time for each pic. So is it copying? Any advice would be sweet. Thanks!!

I've waited for somebody with more experience to post an answer, but none so far. So here is mine:

I have been looking for a way to make iPhoto to reference my photos from pre-existing folders without copying them into its own folder/library structure. iTunes can do that with music files, but it does not seem like i Photo is able to do the same with image files. When it says exporting, it actually copies first. You can check it with Spotlight. I could not find a way around it. The sales rep at the Apple store concured as well, although I've seen clueless reps before, so it is not a definitive answer.

Anybody else who knows how to get it done?

iPhoto organizes photos by duplicating them into its own quasi-logical yet unuseable file system. It is horrible to deal with and a reason why many a Mac user doesn't use iPhoto at all. Please send feedback to Apple.

Here's hoping for this to change in iLife 06! And when they change this, maybe they can let us actually rename files in iPhoto as well instead of just giving them 'titles'. And maybe not have iPhoto strip spotlight comments from photos when it imports them.

Ok, as I suspected. My iPod Video is gettn returned and I'm pickn up a nano, strictly for music. I guess I don't need to carry around my pics anyway. I mean really, who wants to see my pics anyway?? Thanks for the input.
