This has been bugging me for a while. If I'm saving a picture, for example, from Facebook - it opens preview and from there I can save it to pictures. It doesn't give me iPhoto as an option. But then when I'm trying to locate the picture later on - today, from Pages - then the only option I have is to select from iPhoto - and the picture isn't stored there.

It's like I can ONLY save to 'pictures', but 'pictures' really is just a trash can that I can't retrieve anything from when I need it. :/

How are you "saving" your picture from Facebook? If you click on the picture to open it, and then Right/Ctrl click/two finger click, then you should get a popup menu like this:
Screen%20Shot%202015-12-19%20at%2020.02.52_zpshd5maizv.png

Where mine says, "Add Image To Photos", yours should say, "Add Image To iPhoto Library".
