iPhoto --> Aperture - doubles up on disk space?

Like many others no doubt, at its new much lower price I am seriously considering "upgrading" from iPhoto to Aperture.

If I install Aperture and do a full import from iPhoto am I right in thinking it wont blow the iPhoto library away but leave it in place? eg that there is no "convert iPhoto Library" option?

So do you think the best plan is to do the import, use Aperture for a while to check all is well, and then after that get rid of my iPhoto library ?

I'm not exactly sure how the new app store issue will work, but this is a screenshot of the Import command in Aperture 3. Store in Aperture will move the files. Store in Current Location will cause Aperture to create links to the photos stored in the iPhoto Library. When I installed A3, there was an option for this when the app was first set up. It was a while ago, so I may not be clear on all of this.
