iphoto back up problem

Hi, I wonder if you can point me in the right direction? I have copied the iphoto library to an external hard drive, and set iphoto up to use this new library when it opens. However, the purpose of the exercise was to let me delete the original library, to free up memory.

Now, if i delete a photo from the original library, it also deletes it from the new external one. I must be doing something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated!

You moved your iPhoto Library to an external drive, told iPhoto to use the relocated library, deleted the original library from the internal drive, and now when you delete images you're surprised it clears it from your backed up library? This all seems normal to me...unless you meant to have two copies of the library on the external drive.
