I have always used a nice referenced file system on Windows. I like this for ease of uploading to dropbox and managing my files etc.

I do however like the layout and neatness of the way iPhoto displays my images etc.

So i have now created a referenced library and deleted my iPhoto one.

My question is ..

If i import the Photos folder to iPhoto as this is where i store my images - will it pick up if i add any photos to the folder outside of iTunes and automatically sync/import them or do i have to manually do it each time i add a file?

Also will deleting the file from iPhoto damage the original in any way?

No, it won't know that you've copied files there. You can, however, set iPhoto prefs so that if you attach a camera it will automatically start up. Then you can choose to import photos.
