iPhoto: dates on pix

iMac using Lion. My digicam had the wrong year (2005). I transferred a bunch of pix to iPhoto. I changed the dates to 2012. Now the info says the year is like 1936. So I change it to 2012 again. Now it says like 1875. WUWT?
