I have all pictures on my hard drive. I just imported all my pics to iphoto. My question is... can i move all my original photo files to an external disk and have iphoto work with the imported pics??? or will it cause an error in iphoto when i try to share them online?

You should be able to put the photos onto another drive without it causing any issues with iPhoto. I have lots of photos in iPhoto that aren't saved in my Pictures folder, and I can look at them, edit them, upload them to Facebook, etc, just fine.
You can move the originals to an external HDD and delete them from your internal HDD, iPhoto has made copies and stores them in Macintosh HD / Users / YOU / Pictures / iPhoto / iPhoto Library.
