Hey guys,
I just got finished updating and setting up a fresh install of Yosemite, upgrading from the DP.
Everything was going fine and dandy until I went to set up my iPhoto library back up. I went ahead and backed up the few files I actually wanted/needed to keep onto my external HDD.
I went ahead and put the iPhoto Library.photolibrary folder into the Pictures folder and fired up iPhoto, expecting my pictures to come up as they've normally done in the past.
My problem is that they don't! I've tried deleting and re-adding the library, as well as selecting it from within the app as my "library of choice".
I've looked at the iPhoto library file to see how large the file size is, and lo and behold, it's got about 17mb of content. I got it to important it only contained random images that I didn't even know existed anymore? Like, pictures that I took for temporary references or something of that nature.
I'm starting to panic because it seems to me that I botched the backup process of my images, but is there ANYTHING I can do to recover my iPhoto library as it was before wiping my hard drive?
It had quite a few important photos in it that'd I'd be really really upset to have lost
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
TL;DR: I reformatted my drive and put a clean install of Yosemite on my laptop. Backed up my iPhoto library to an external drive. Tried adding it back and all of the pictures are gone. Any way I can recover those by chance?
PS: I've got an SSD and the reformat wasn't any super secure one, just the basic "erase and format" in disk utility (i.e. my trash still wasn't emptied after the format)
----------
Update:
Going to go ahead and try a recovery application to see if I can find anything. Anyone recommend any particular data recovery app?
