Hi all,

I have been trying to get the awsome iPhoto Export script that I downloaded from Apple´s site (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/imaging_3d/simplevieweriphotoexport.html) to work, but somehow the app either:

a) Doesn´t see my albums (using v. 1.2.1)
b) Resizes the pictures so that they are way pixelated (using v. 1.0)

I use Tiger with all the latest updates and iPhoto 5. The author of the iphoto export script has made the app available together with the source code here:

I have included some of the comments from other users of the app below (I copied them from, Hagus, the author´s site). You might wonder why I say the script is awesome when it doesn´t quite work - well, the answer is simple - the app is sooo close to save me and many others for hours and hours of work, thus I would give it a 9.9 out of 10!

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Lars

SimpleViewer iPhoto Export 1.21
Submitted by hagus on Fri, 2005-12-23 09:21.SimpleViewer iPhoto Export
Hi once again. I have released version 1.21 of SimpleViewer iPhoto Export. You can download it here or get the source code here.

In this edition, I have tweaked the resize code so that it uses the highest quality interpolation. This should result in better quality pictures. Please note that for many quality issues, SimpleViewer is the culprit! If you make your image size 800 pixels on the long side and SimpleViewer can't quite fit it in the browser, it will downsample for you and do a terrible job.

The solution is to use a smaller image size. I have started using 680 pixels as the default maximum image size, which seems to work well. You're free to change it, but be aware of how your images may look to people using 1024x768 screen resolution in a cramped browser.

The other big change in this edition is a cancel button! How very sophisticated. Yes, you can now stop the export dead in its tracks if you desire. It was easy to do once I learned how to incorporate it.

Please keep the suggestions flowing in. Thanks!

Like SimpleViewer iPhoto Export? It's free (as in beer), but if you'd like to show your appreciation you can check my Amazon.com wishlist or make a donation to luke@burton.echidna.id.au via PayPal.

Code Tweaks
Submitted by scott (not verified) on Fri, 2006-02-10 01:11.
I made a couple of code tweaks I can pass back to you if you're interested. One was simply adding thumbpath and imagepath to the editable xml attributes - I've got my images in a seperate folder unlike your default setup.

The second change which I consider a little more serious was that if you made any tweaks to your image in iphoto, it was stored as a PSD and that file extension was preserved when you exported to JPEG format. This is also the case if you've imported any TIFFs or whatnot.

I made another small tweak that ensures that when you resize an image that it is named *.jpg

Now I'm trying to figure out if it's ever the case that you copy a file as-is without resizing it - like if it's smaller than the default size. If that's the case I'll need to make sure the code transcodes the image instead of resizing if it's a format other than jpeg. Can you point me in the right direction for that?

-Scott

I'm using your creation commercially here: http://www.detroithomemag.com/houseparty.php.

Very nice work! I wish one could select font without coding your app. Better yet would be recognition of the CSS font rules.

Background colour

Many thanks for this nice program. It works fine, except it always keeps the 181818 colour in the background no matter which colour I put in. It would also be great if one of the options was not to include captions.

Nothing shows up in Album Popup Window

Hi there,
Dowloaded ver 1.21 and 1.2. They don't seem to work for me. Nothing appears in the Album pop up window. I click on it and nothing happens. However, I downloaded ver 1.0 and that works fine. However, the pic quality is not too good.
OS 10.4.4, iPhoto 5.0.4
BTW - Does this work with iPhoto 6?

I am in exactly the same boat

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with not seeing the albums and getting poor quality if you go with version 1 - I need to create 30 albums with almost 100 pictures total, so I am hoping there is a resolution. I am also curious if it will work with iphoto 6 that I (as most of us) will eventually upgrade to.

Let me know if you are able to resolve the issue!

Cheers,
Lars
