I am about to get a MacBook, but when I was at Starbucks, I heard a bunch of people saying that iPhoto sucks because it saves two of every picture so it doubles on hard drive space. I don't know if they are talking about iPhoto '08 if they are just idiots.

If I have 12.3GB of photos in Picasa on my PC, will I have 12.3GB of photos in iPhoto on my future Mac?

Thanks

iPhoto saves the original files when you import them, and if you edit them it will save an edited copy separately. This way, you can go back and restore it to the original at any time. It's called non-destructive editing.

So, yes, there will be some extra copies of files. In my experience though, it can be very helpful to be able to go back to the original.
