iPhoto freezing when I open an image?

iPhoto 06 keeps on freezing when I want to open ANY image inside of it. I can see all of the pictures and I can zoom up to them, yet when I want to edit it, it goes to the beach-ball and locks up.

Also, all my icons in the program are missing. WHat seems to be the problem?

That sounds terribly hosed, i.e. core code is corrupted, wrong permissions (i.e. Disk Utility->Repair Permissions) but I've seen alot of posts like this and usually it requires a re-install.

I think iPhoto is found on the iLife original CD, so if you have that re-install it after deleting the app from the Applications folder.
